Jake Strait

Jake Strait is in his first season as assistant athletic director for communications at The University of South Dakota. He joins the Coyote family after spending one season at Regis University in Denver, Colo.

While at Regis, Strait served as the school’s sports information director. He managed the promotion of all 12 of the school’s NCAA Division II sports. One of his biggest projects while at Regis was overseeing the design and completion of the athletic department’s new website, www.regisrangers.com.

Prior to his arrival at Regis he spent two seasons at Southwest Minnesota State University. While at SMSU, he was the primary media contact for volleyball, soccer, women’s basketball, wrestling, softball and tennis. During that time he also worked two NCAA Division II volleyball tournaments and one NCAA Division II softball tournament. He also hosted the NCAA Division II North Region wrestling tournament.

Over the past years Strait has also served on the media relations staff of two NCAA Division I tournaments. In 2007 he worked with Denver University at the 2007 NCAA Division I West Regional for men’s hockey. In 2006 he worked the 2006 NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, Strait worked with the University of Minnesota during the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds.

In the past three years he has also served as a member of the NCAA Division II Daktronics volleyball committee. In 2006 he served as the national vice chair and the previous two years he was the regional coordinator for the North Central Region. His work in volleyball earned him the American Volleyball Coaches Association SID of the Year award for the region in 2005.

Strait is a 2003 graduate of Southwest Minnesota State with a bachelor degree in speech communication: TV/Radio. He is currently pursuing his masters degree in sports management.
